Jane Gras, Co-Director
Jane has been a resident of the Northshire area for the past 20 years. She began her career in education back in 1988 here at the Northshire Day School, after graduating from Green Mountain College with her bachelor’s degree. After working the school age summer program at NDS, Jane continued her education at Castleton State College where she obtained her Master’s in Education with a teaching license for early education and K-6th grade. This brought her back to NDS and she became the Director/Head Teacher for five years. Leaving NDS in 1995 Jane worked at Middletown Springs and Tinmouth Elementary schools, providing Title One reading services to children from K-6th grade. The year 2000 brought Jane back to NDS where she currently is the co-director. Jane is on the Bennington County Child Care Association’s Board of Directors and the Southern Vermont Educators Symposium Committee. She enjoys coaching Girl’s on the Run at Maple Street School and spending time with her husband, Gary, and her two children, Emma and Austin.
We believe the quality of our program is directly related to the quality of our staff. All Northshire Day School staff has one or more of the following degrees: Child Development Associate, Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Also, each staff person has an Individualized Professional Plan. This plan is reviewed yearly by each staff member and the Director. Yearly goals are set for staff members to work toward in the field of early childhood education. Once the goals are met, new goals are set. All staff is required by the state to have at least twelve hours of educational training each year i.e. course work, workshops, and or training. Northshire Day School encourages all staff to attend twenty-four hours by providing educational workshops on site. We also provide substitutes for our staff when training occurs on a work day.
